David H Dudley PE Gardening & Landscape Design There does not seem to be any good Aquaponics books. They are all too general, do not provide adequate beginner instructions, do not provide beginner diagrams for the home user (versus aquaponics farmer).That being said this book is a GREAT resource. Even if you have other books or resources, this book is a MUST have for beginners. It is basically an encyclopedia for Aquaponics. ***Everything you need to know is in this book***It is not the Aquaponics for dummies book, but if you take the time to read it all the information you will ever need is in there.

David H Dudley PE Gardening & Landscape Design I read Sylvia Bernstein's book a few years ago and realized that it didn't have enough details to make me feel confident in attempting to cobble a system together. This book gives you parameters and specific advice on best practices when designing and operating a system. It'll explain parameters such as how powerful of a water pump you need, the size of piping that you should use, the ranges of different chemicals (nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, oxygen, etc.) that must be maintained to keep the system from collapsing.This book covers Deep Water Culture and Nutrient Film Technique enough to decide whether or not to use those systems, and how one should run those systems. The same goes for types of fish. The book goes more in-depth about Tilapia fish and Flood and Drain media bed systems, providing a few instructions and a part list for building a system.This book is like having a teacher. It's worth the retail value (about $60) because it's like a reliable college textbook.The digital Kindle version is only the first edition of the book (which is still good, and which I also have ;). The second edition (currently only available in paper) has dozens of diagrams, product depictions, tons of informational tables, new tips (like using black soldier fly larvae as first food), aquaponic-safe DIY recipes for bug repellent, even a new section on canning your produce.It's extremely nice and easier to plan when you're able to see what items are being referred to via pictures, opposed to not having them like in the first edition.

As an engineer, I find this show extremely addicting, informative, and fun.I do wish that sometimes they didn't move so fast, and focused a bit more on the manufacturing processes and design, but I understand it is simple, and there is a time constraint.It would be hard to condense manufacturing a car/truck/van into a 22 min program, let along a 1/3 segment of a 22 min program.The kayak one was a better example of the level I would personally like to see, but regardless, I love this show. Watching the machinery and people fabricate things I use on a daily basis is neat, and it opens my eyes to some manufacturing techniques that I might not realize are used.During undergrad (and to some extent graduate school) I remember some of my floormates sitting in front of their TV blitzed out of their minds on various substances, watching HIM intensely. The show was like crack to them. They actually went as far as to *shush* me when I tried to ask them anything.

Best  Just interesting enough to keep their attention, just boring enough to settle them down. Kids are 5 and 8.

 Great family friendly show for kids to learn from! Parents will enjoy it too. Each episode has several things that are made and seems to cover items that appeal to all ages of kids. The show is fast paced and interesting enough to keep kids’ attention.There are a lot of seasons of this show now, so it’s a good one for those kids that want their own series to watch. Besides learning how different items are made, there is a lot of specialized machinery that they use in the episodes, and you learn about that machinery too. It’s fascinating to see the detail that goes into making these machines to produce these products.Our family really enjoys this show, check it out and see what you learn!

Best Mary Jane  Very informative and practical book. I bought this book to gain more knowledge on the benefits of cannabis for health and mental performance. I have heard many stories of cannabis improving creativity and brain functioning, so I bought this book to better understand the possibilities. I am not an experienced user of cannabis so this book is very helpful for me to make an informed decision. I highly recommend doing your research before using cannabis and this book is definitely worth reading.

Mary Jane  The book is very informative without being too lengthy. The author shares background info about what cannabis is, some brief history on its usage in previous centuries, and medical benefits of the plant. The section about how to grow it in your house was pretty interesting for me and the steps for how to do this are thorough. I would've given 5 stars, but throughout the book there are some typos that distract from the book's message. I would advise the author to proofread it and correct the errors for an improved reading experience. Nonetheless, the book is a good introductory read if your curious about marijuana in plain, easy to understand text.

Joseph Goss Gardening & Landscape Design Without knowing ANYTHING about the subject of botany or hydroponics I was able to use this workbook. It is NOT a textbook but a simple little how-to that works. The book is set up in steps covering everything from seed starting, to system building, to watering. There is no way the subject could be made easier. At first, I bought a rather large text book on the subject and I was totally freaked. I couldn't understand a word. I bought this book because the title said "simplified." That sums it up. After reading it and following the steps, I got great results.I see that some people love it and some hate the book in the reviews on Amazon. I think if you are a science person with a love for complicated formulas and theory this is not the book for you. If you JUST WANT TO GROW PLANTS INDOORS WITHOUT ALOT OF GRIEF...you cannot buy a better book. My copy was NOT an inkjet copy as one of the other reviewers mentioned, so there may be two editions? I don't know. My edition was great. I also gave this book as a Christmas gift.I would buy it again.

Furthermore there is not much substance within and most topics are only briefly touched. However one section I liked is which plants grow in harmony, apart from that your money could be spent more wisely elsewhere. This book is cheap for a good reason.

Shelley Levis Gardening & Landscape Design I just started trying to grow food indoors, I started with an AquaFarm, but wasn't successful years ago. I recently got bitten by the grow all of the food bug, but hate actual bugs, weeds, and unpredictable weather. If it isn't fun, I won't do it. So I bought some Aerogardens another AquaFarm and an Altifarm. I saw this book and it looked like it could give me quite a bit of information and educate me on some of the appliances/units I haven't tried. I'm still VERY new, within my first month, but I have gained quite a bit of knowledge and believe that I will gain more as I complete this book. I especially love the section where Shelly goes over which plants will grow the best in these systems and how to troubleshoot problems. This book has inspired me with the photos and prose to believe that I can grow all of the things!

John Choisser If I could give this book 10 stars, I would! I have been researching hydroponics and aquaponics for the past few days and it all seemed so confusing on how to set up my own system indoors. For some reason, the instructions in this book made so much sense and I feel completely confident that I can now build my own system easily. Life saving shopping lists are also included. The history and knowledge of aquaponics is easy to understand. I am using the information for my personal home use, however it is a great book for educational purposes like classrooms. Thank you!

Best John Choisser  Excellent introduction to aquaponics. Very easy to understand, an excellent resource for beginners and teachers wanting to use aquaponics as a practical hand-on tool to teach various scientific concepts.

John Choisser  It was a good read for some basic how to ideas and set up (e.g., the list of materials and idea to scrounge as much as possible was great) but the book seemed to be a chapter or two short. I would have liked more description of how to complete the set up, discussion of why the author chose the options he did, and what are some impacts of you chose A over B or a bigger/more A. I think it is a good first read and your can replicate what he did but it lacks the background education that you would need if you wanted to modify what he did or figure out why something in your setup wasn't working. But for the price you can't beat it and I would recommend buying it. You'll just have to read another book for deeper learning or experiment with your own set up.

It covers "roots" from my level. Get it!

Best Keith F. Roberto Gardening & Landscape Design Keith Roberto does an excellent job covering all of the basics of soilfree gardening. This book is easy to understand for people like myself who have little knowledge of the subject. The essential components of a succesful soilfree garden are covered very well, such as the balance between lighting and nutrients and the chemical changes that occur in the growth process. All of this explained in "layman's terms" that we can all understand. Three well described sets of plans are included in the book which can get the reader on a small budget started. Indoors or Outside, using natural sunlight or artificial lighting, this book covers it all. I am looking forward to having a year-round fresh salad garden grown in my own garage!

Keith F. Roberto Gardening & Landscape Design I've bought four hydroponic books to date and this is the third one I've read. It is packed with data and tells it like it is. I call it a left-brain booklet because it reads like a text book; which it is. This book turned me on to something I didn't know about - Aeroponics! Now I'm beginning to rethink my hydroponics plans and shall look more deeply into Aeroponics. Surprise, there was a great hint on how to grow hot peppers even hotter than usual. If you want to get excited about hydroponics first read "Hydroponics for Everyone" by Dr. Struan Sutherland. Then buy this book and don't skip over it; read it through. In the book "Hydroponics Soilless Gardening" by Richard Nicholls there were two paragraphs devoted to Aeroponics, but for some reason it didn't register with me what was being said. Keith Roberto not only explains Aeroponics but shows how to build a small inexpensive unit. One complaint I have is: in all three of these books that I've read, not one gave a hint as to the cost of the nutrient solutions and how often they need to be purchased for a small operation. After all, you've heard the phrase 'dirt cheap' but I bet in hydroponics you won't hear 'liquid nutrient cheap'. Even the simple construction projects looked tedious; so maybe purchasing kits will be more my style. Mr. Roberto does give a website to access for supplies. Some of the prices made me choke. My advice is to read before jumping into hydroponics. The next book I've purchased and will now read is "Hydroponic Tomatoes For the Home Gardener" by Howard M. Resh. After that I will digest all I've read and make a decision on which way to go; if any. As a very long-time soil organic gardener I know what good vegetables should taste like and it's not what we get from the supermarket. Will it be what I get from Hydroponics?

Coolrunner Pots We purchased this to protect our tulip bulbs. We heard that in order to keep moles and gophers from eating your bulbs to use either yogurt cups or a fruit container. We found these instead and used them. I will have to edit in the Spring to see if it worked. They are of great quality and they arrived right on time.

Coolrunner Pots I bought these for one of my hydroponic systems and for the most part, they are as described. The size is great and it has a larger lip than the ones that came with the system. The only thing I noticed is that the plastic seems to become too brittle when the weather is cold. These arrived on a 30+ degree day and when I tried to pull them apart soon after bringing them inside, pieces of plastic broke off the lip sections, even when I was trying to be gentle. That was kind of frustrating. Luckily, I only really needed a few at this time, so it was not a huge deal that some of them broke. I pulled some more apart the next day and found that it was much easier to separate, so I think the cold was the culprit. So, on a cold day, be careful when handling these. Otherwise, they seem pretty durable.
